LET’S TALK ABOUT THE JOB!
You report to the Accounting Manager Projects & Integrations and will service Shurgard’s operations business in your market(s) with accounting and other administrative services. You will be responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. These accounting activities include mainly cash & receivable related activities, but also some more general duties such as general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.


You will have contact with local management (Market Managers, District Managers, Human Resources etc.) and third parties involved in the cash & receivable process of the company. You supervise (junior/senior) Accountants and are responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

Accounting and Finance responsibilities



  • You manage all aspects of accounting and financial reporting of the subsidiaries in your area of expertise in accordance with IFRS and local GAAP in order to meet local statutory and group reporting requirements.

  • You manage partnerships with external service providers (Payment Service Providers, ERP Software Providers).

  • You ensure the Oder-to-Cash process for the ancillary income of the group.

  • You ensure delivery of management reporting.

  • You ensure the preparations of annual (local statutory) accounts.

  • You ensure the preparations of budgets.

  • You ensure SLAs towards internal stakeholders are met.

  • You ensure proper documentation of unusual/significant transactions (Accounting memos).

  • You ensure that all tax declarations and tax compliance activities are met in close collaboration with the Tax department.

  • You ensure banking and treasury activities.

  • You support the execution of mergers, acquisitions and integration as necessary.

  • You support internal and external audit processes.

  • You collaborate closely with the various support departments at the European Support Center, including IS, Marketing, Legal and Human Resources.


Process and systems



  • You implement procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and procedures for all business cycles in accordance with Shurgard’s standards.

  • You support the testing and roll out of new applications and processes.

  • You contribute to European projects: systems, maintenance of policies and procedures.

  • You support the Finance organization with special projects and workflow process improvements.

  • You ensure the application of and compliance with Shurgard’s control framework.

  • You manage a team of 6 people to deliver timely and accurate accounting and financial reporting services.

  • You collaborate with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.

  • You advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.

  • You provide training to new and existing staff as needed.

  • You handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.

  • You work with each direct report to establish and monitor the enhancement of goals and objectives.

  • You coordinate the daily housekeeping of the Luxembourg office.

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR PROFILE!



  • You have a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in accounting and some initial management experience.

  • You have experience in the Services or Retail sector.

  • You have experience with IFRS and local GAAP. Exposure to US reporting tools is a plus

  • You have exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

  • You have a working knowledge of Microsoft applications and an advanced level in Excel.

  • You have experience in CRM/ERP migration projects (with focus on UAT, acting as key user/trainer).

  • Experience with JD Edwards and SAP S/4HANA is a plus.

  • You are fluent in English. Any other market’s language is considered a plus.

  • You travel occasionally to meet with internal clients, attend training courses and meetings. Travel is expected to be around 20% of the time, often including overnight stays.
